6-Month Update

Time is truly flying and baby l will be here in around 4 months!!! I cannot believe it. I have little by little started to buy some stuff, mostly fun gifts, such as a little bear crochet hat, cute booties, Peter Rabbit baby bedding and so on!!

We decided to go with the Europa Baby Palisades Collection for the furniture and Shermag Glider in Mocha all from Babies R Us.

After they delivered two of the same dressers and we had to wait another month to get the right tall dresser, we finally have all the correct furniture. Also, I managed to finally take down all the wallpaper border, so now my husband needs to get working on spackling, sanding, painting, etc. The plan is to have everything done by the end of June, since my shower is July 17th and we can spend July organizing.

I have been feeling great!!! A little back pain, which I know is normal. Still walking 2-3 times a week and pre-natal yoga here and there. I do feel like the last few weeks I have gotten a lot bigger but it is what it is. The baby has been moving around a lot...little jumping bean!!

Only 55 more days of work left and 110 days until baby l is here!!! The baby is about the size of an eggplant and is about 2 lbs!! So crazy!! We are set on a girl's first name but unsure of the middle name. As for a boy's name, we have a few that we like, so it is just a matter of decided on which one.

Time is ticking and I am just so excited for these next 4 months to fly by so we can meet baby l!!

Let's Talk Flats

So this past week I have had a lot of back pain and everything I read said to not wear heels, relax and stretch. I am fine with the stretching and try to relax but the no heels thing is killing me. I am only 5'1" so I need tall shoes to not look stumpy and to be of relevant height to others. Today is my first day in flats and I truly am not liking it. They have so many nice pairs of flats too!! I already have the extra weight on but then to not add height with heels...ahhh!!

I got these shoes from Target yesterday for $12.99. GREAT price!

We shall see how this works out!!!

ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS SHOE DILEMMA??

Oh So Glam Interview

This is the first ever Diva Baby Interview. I was so pleased that Jen, also known by @ohsoglam on twitter, agreed to be my first interview. Jen is also a mom-to-be, so we have had numerous convos about preparing for our future babies. I am so glad to have met her and hope to do more interviews with her throughout the rest of her pregnancy.

INTERVIEW

*What have you purchased so far for your little bundle of joy?

So far, we've only made one major purchase: the crib. I didn't anticipate buying it so soon, but it was a deal we simply couldn't pass up. My aunt has surprised me with a few things for the bean, like a few outfits, and I bought a hooded towel from PBK that I just couldn't pass up. Other than that, we are waiting until this summer to make the rest of the bigger purchases (car seat, dressers, stroller).

*What are some fears you have?
I have silly, irrational fears, like getting an epidural. Nope, the actual birthing process doesn't bother me one bit. I have a "it's gotta come out some way!" attitude towards labor/birth, but the idea of pain has been squirming in my seat. I have a low tolerance for pain, so I can't even begin to imagine what kind of experience this is going to be for me. I also worry about what life will be like once the bean makes his/her debut... will I have time for work? How am I going to balance being a mommy, a designer, a blogger, and a wife? I know that I'll figure everything out, and it should be a fairly easy transition with the help and support of my husband.

*If you could recommend one book or other preparation tool for new mom's what would it be?
Everyone considers the What to Expect When You're Expecting book the pregnancy bible, so I ran out and bought it as soon as I found out I was pregnant. It's really fun to read -- especially the milestones! -- but I certainly wouldn't refer to it as a pregnancy bible. I find that talking to other moms and my OB is a much greater resource than any book. Moms (especially those with little ones!) seem to be the most up to date on current laws and regulations (my mom swears drop-side cribs are still ok to use!), and can give unbiased reviews on the latest products... which is something that When You're Expecting doesn't do. I also found lucieslist.com to be particularly helpful.

*Tell us a little bit about the theme for your nursery...
Even though I'm a designer, this has been the hardest decision to make and I'm sure I'l change my mind 10 times between now and when the time comes to actually get the nursery started (and even then, I bet you I'll change my design direction with the room!). Regardless, I don't want a room to scream "baby" and I want the room to be something that can grow with the bean. In otherwords, I don't want a Winnie the Pooh room that I have to change in three years because my kid likes Transformers now.

We find out what we're having in two weeks (!!!), and for a girl I'd like to use soft colors like blush pink, a smoky teal, and canary yellow. I want to take it up a notch by adding punches of raspberry in the room. I found a super sweet crib skirt at Pottery Barn that I'd like to use, but I'm still undecided on crib sheet colors. If it turns out that baby bean is a boy, I'd like to use a smoky teal, gray and shades of green throughout the room. I'm thinking Vintage Steve McQueen/Vintage Car look throughout the room: very clean lines with vintage posters of cars.

Oh What I Miss...

Being pregnant means there are certain things you have to give up, like sushi and drinking alcohol, which is all worth it in the end. However, there are some little things that I would never have thought would be difficult. I was in my BFF's wedding a few weeks ago and just slow dancing with my husband was proven difficult with my big old belly in the way haha!!

What do you miss???

Push Present

I just found out about the concept of a "push present" last year. Apparently, this is a gift that a moms-to-be gets once they have their baby. It is almost like a reward for the pain and suffering of pregnancy and giving birth. My husband does not believe in this concept, so we shall see if I get a push present when Baby L is born in Sept! If not, I may just buy myself a push present :)

This is what Rachel Zoe got as a push present:

10 carat cushion cut diamond ring designed by Neal Lane

Did you get a push present?

Featured Vendor - Kayteedids Couture

This week I am featuring another amazing vendor. As most of you know, I am having a baby in September and I was asking my twitter friends to suggest some great vendors. Kayteedids Couture was one of the names mentioned. As soon as I looked at her products, I was instantly in love and wanted to purchase them all! Kayteedids Couture is definitely worth checking out.

Here are a few of my favorites:

Playmat in Hooty Hoot

Blankie in Sweet Pea

Nursing Cover with Pocket

Q&A with Kate:

Why did you decide to start your own business?

My mom taught me to sew at a young age and I love carrying on that talent from her. When I had my daughter in 2009 my eyes were opened to the world of fun things to make for babies and moms! It started as me just making blankets for my own little girl and nursing covers for me but then people started placing orders and encouraged me to start an online shop! I love knowing that little ones are snuggled up with a Kayteedids Couture blanket somewhere out there!

What exactly does Kayteedids Couture entail?

I make 3 types of Baby Blankets:

· The Loop Lovey is 18”x22” with 8 fun ribbon loops attached for twiddling, chewing, and carrying!

· The Lovey is 18”x22” and is perfect for the carseat or stroller!

· The Blankie is 36”x36”

I also carry nursing covers that have been designed by me during my 19 months of breastfeeding and dealing with the flaws in store bought covers. A Kayteedids Couture nursing covers is larger, reversible, and can be thrown in with you normal laundry! No “laying flat to dry” because of plastic boning!

I also love to make boutique hairbows but I do this by request only. I can make a custom bow to match any outfit your little girl needs an accessory for!

I offer custom options for all of my items ranging from the customer beings hands off to being completely involved in the creative process.

What advice do you give to other female entrepreneurs?

It’s okay if you have “too many ideas”. Play around with all of them and you’ll find your niche. Your work should feel comfortable and you should look forward to working on your projects!

What are 3 things people don't know about you?

  1. I don’t like bendy straws! They’re never in the right place when I want to take a sip!
  2. My drink at Starbucks is a Grande 6 pump Vanilla Latte, No Foam, With Whip and 145 degrees. That or, a Grande Iced Tea, Half Black Tea, Half Passion Tea, Extra Sweet. High maintenance you say?? Only at Starbucks!
  3. When I turned 15 my dad said I could have a horse or a car…I chose a car. So my dad and I built a 1972 Volkswagon Bug from scratch. My license plate was KATESBG and we called him Herbie.
Thanks Kate!!
